Proof Points

Performance

• SGI Altix 4700 holds the world record for SPECjbb2005, 5,180,451 billions of operations/sec, 1.5 times faster than the next closest competitor.
• SGI Altix aggregate memory bandwidth is 4,350GB/s, 5x faster than the closest competitor.
• SGI Altix 4700 holds the world record result of 10600 for SPECfp_rate_base2006, over 5X higher than the nearest competitor's result. SGI also holds the world record result of 3350 for SPECint_rate2006. SPEC, SPECfp, and SPECint are registered trademarks of the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation.  Competitive benchmark results stated above reflect results published on www.spec.org/cpu2006/ as of April 26, 2009.
Scalability
• SGI Altix servers support more memory than any other system in its class, up to up to 12TB in a single system (128TB of addressable memory)
• SGI Altix servers support more memory per core than any other system in its class, up to 208 GB/core.

Flexibility

• Unique memory-only blades allow customers to add memory to SGI Altix 4700 and 450 servers without adding CPUs or I/O.
Lower TCO
• The flexible memory architecture of Altix servers allows customers to configure Altix servers with more memory and less cores than competing systems, resulting in overall lower hardware and software license costs.
• SGI Altix 4700 server uses as little as 40% the power required by competing systems in the same class.

Partnerships

• SGI delivers highly scalable, cost-effective Enterprise solutions by combining advanced technology from industry leading partners with innovative system design and software.
• SGI maintains a close working relationship with Novell on Linux support for scalability, performance, and support for SGI servers and storage systems
• SGI works closely with Red Hat on Linux support with a special emphasis on security and adherence to standards
• SGI contributes thousands of lines of code to the Linux community, including code that supports large scale computing, reliability and system stability

The SGI Altix family of servers is based on one of the most flexible and scalable architectures in the world today. Customers can combine 8 high-density, interchangeable blades to configure just the right amount of compute, memory, I/O and visualization resources for their particular requirements. The SGI Altix 4700 scales up to 1,024 Dual-Core Intel® Itanium® 2 processors and 128 TB of globally shared memory. The smaller SGI Altix 450 scales up to 36 dual-core processors and up to 456 GB of shared memory.

Both systems can run under a single Linux image, which simplifies software development, workload management and system administration. The innovative blade-to-NUMAlink™ architecture also provides industry-leading bandwidth and latency, for superior performance for distributed memory applications. With standards-based components, configurable systems and extreme scalability, SGI gives customers unprecedented flexibility for solving some of today’s most compute-intensive problems.
